Teach for China

Sponsor A Teacher

The Need Is Great

Tens of millions of children growing up in China’s high-poverty communities do not have access to a quality education. While 70% of students from China’s major cities attend college, less than 5% of students from poor rural areas go on to higher education. Teach For China seeks to address one of the greatest social inequities affecting China’s low-income populations today – the fact that where a child is born determines his or her educational prospects, and, therefore, life opportunities.

You Can Make A Difference

Teach For China is forging a community of dedicated supporters who share its vision of one day ending educational inequity in China. A gift of 50,000 RMB or more helps fund the cost to recruit, train, and support outstanding young leaders to become effective, inspiring teachers. Through two years of service as full-time, core-subject teachers in low-income schools, Teach For China teachers (called “Fellows”) lead their students to develop the academic knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to embark on dramatically improved life paths. Simultaneously, through the experience of teaching and working with local administrations, Fellows gain a deep understanding of the issues surrounding educational inequity, becoming equipped and motivated to advance the cause of educational equity from a variety of professional fields.

How It Works

Step 1. You complete a Sponsorship Commitment form, which we use to make the best possible match between you and your sponsored Fellow.

Step 2. We provide you with background information on your Fellow and periodic classroom updates, along with regional and national updates about the organization.

Step 3. After you have received your introductory packet, you will have the opportunity to connect with the Fellow you have sponsored. Some Donors take on mentorship roles, others receive letters. Of course, you are free to decide the level of contact you wish to maintain with your Fellow.
